The management of the Federal Polytechnic, Bida has suspended the executive members of the Polytechnic’s Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) for allegedly failing to reply to the administrative query given to them.
The suspension letter, it was gathered, was signed by the Deputy Registrar, Hussaini Muhammad Enagi.
A source, who is a member of the union in the institution, told our reporter that though ASUP was surprised at the suspension letter issued to its executives, they refused to be intimidated by the action of the management.
The management issued the query following an open letter written by ASUP to the Accountant General of the Federation over the secret recruitment of 141 staff.
Besides, members of the Federal Polytechnic Bida chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) had on Monday embarked on an indefinite strike over the administrative query issued to its executive as a result of an open letter written to the Accountant General of the Federation over the ‘secret’ recruitment of 141 new staff.
In the letter, the union described the recent ‘secret’ recruitment by the management as suspicious and does not serve the interest of the various departments of the institution.
Members of the union who embarked on the indefinite strike on Monday after an emergency meeting on the administrative query issued on Friday, have vowed not to return to work, until the query is withdrawn and the issues raised in the letters are settled.
