Ekiti State Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Nigeria Governor’s Forum Dr. Kayode Fayemi has made a case for the second term aspiration of his Ogun State counterpart, Dapo Abiodun.

Fayemi ratified the Ogun State governor’s second term bid for office on Thursday, during a visit to him at the state capital, Abeokuta.

The former minister noted that Dapo Abiodun earned his second term endorsement because he performed creditably, citing his last visit with the president to commission projects in the state as proof of his performance.

He said “As Chairman of the Governor’s Forum, I was elected to protect and to promote every governor who is a member of my forum, so, you shouldn’t be surprised if I want him back.

“I am sure you saw me when the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), came to commission projects here, that in itself is a statement of what I think of the great work our governor is doing within the short space of time he has been in office.”

Fayemi also praised the governor for his business acumen and extensive knowledge of the investment terrain, stating that the Ogun State governor attracted more foreign direct investment than other South-West counterparts except for Lagos.

“He has demonstrated capacity, he has increased investment, naturally, this is a state that attracts more investment than the rest of us, those of us in the hinterland, because it is close to Lagos. But, on top of that, he has brought to bear his business acumen, his extensive knowledge of the investment terrain to attract a lot more investment.” Fayemi added.

Meanwhile, Governor Dapo Abiodun, on Wednesday, urged the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullah Adamu, to ignore a petition sent to his office, seeking his disqualification from participating in the 2022 governorship primary in the state.

He made the plea through his lawyers,  arguing that the allegation levelled against him was a desperate move by some politicians who are bent on stopping his second-term ambition.
