A 42-year-old businessman, Moses Olusola, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate Court by the Police over alleged conspiracy, forgery, fraud and obtaining sum of N2.8 million under false pretence of procuring Australian visa for his victim.
Olusola, whose residential address was not given, pleaded not guilty to the four-count charge leveled against him by the police after it was read to him by court registrar.
In the charge, the accused was alleged to have fraudulently obtained the sum of N2.8 million from the complainant, Ibrahim Kazeem, under the guise of procuring an Australian visa for him.
According to the prosecutor, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Henry Obiazi, the accused (Olusola) procured a fake visa for the complainant, having the knowledge that the visa was fake and wanted it to be acted upon as a genuine document.
“The accused knew that the representation he made to the complainant was false,” Obiazi submitted.
He informed the court that the accused committed the alleged offences sometime in March at Ipaja area of Lagos State.
The offences contravened Sections 287, 314 (3), 365 (1) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
After taking the plea by Olusola, his counsel Mrs Helen Ibeji, prayed the court to admit the accused to bail on liberal terms.
In her ruling, Magistrate (Mrs) O.O. Oshin granted him bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She directed that the sureties must be gainfully employed and must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government and have their addresses verified.
The case was adjourned until September 27 for mention.
