The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has counselled human rights activist and lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), to face his governorship ambition and stop public demonstration of his hatred for Governor Ayodele Fayose.
The party said no amount of mudslinging by Falana and his ilk could diminish the status and political relevance of Governor Fayose in Ekiti State in particular and Nigeria in general. Reacting to comment made by Falana at the maiden edition of Ekitipanupo colloquium in Lagos on Thursday that Governor Fayose was looting funds meant for the development of Ekiti State, the PDP in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Mr Jackson Adebayo, said that Falana was already sounding like a broken record on his obsession with anything anti-Fayose. PDP stated: “Even though the comment, coming from Falana ought to have been ignored like we have always done because his hypocrisy has become so legendary that he should no longer be taken seriously by sane minds, it is shameful that Falana, a Senior Associate Nigeria (SAN) could call someone who has not been convicted by any court of law a looter.”
The party, which accused Falana of using his link with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to wage war against Ekiti people, said, “Falana and his likes should know that 2016 is different from 2006. They cannot draw back the wheel of progress of Ekiti State being anchored by Governor Fayose as they did in 2006.” While saying Falana should rather face his governorship ambition and stop advertising his jejune hatred for Fayose, the PDP said, “Fayose
defeated Falana in 2003 and also defeated the combination of Falana and three former governors of Ekiti State in 2014. He (Falana) should rather face his 2018 governorship ambition and stop thinking that lying against Fayose everywhere he goes can guarantee him the governorship of Ekiti in 2018.
“Instead of hiding under human rights activism to perpetrate evil against Ekiti and its people as he has always done, Falana should be bold enough to declare his governorship ambition, which is not hidden and let’s see how far he can go this time around.”
