Ex-Villa striker, Agbonlahor, slams Brendan Rodgers for leaving Iheanacho on the bench

Nigerian-born British striker and ex-Aston Villa legend, Gabriel Agbonlahor, has queried Liecester City’s coach, Brendan Rogers for leaving Nigeria’s striker, Kelechi Iheanacho, on the bench despite his form.

Iheanacho, who has been in good form for club and country, was Leicester City’s best striker last season, yet, has been restricted to making appearances from the bench this season.

Despite scoring goals at will, his coach, Brendan Rogers, still brought in Zambian striker, Patson Daka, during this year’s transfer window, showing his lack of faith in the Nigerian goal poacher and Aston Villa legend, Gabriel Agbonlahor, cannot understand why Brendan Rodgers will relegate a performer to few appearances from the bench.

Iheanacho’s brilliance helped Leicester secure the Community Shield this season and his assist for Jamie Vardy salvaged a draw for the Foxes in their last EPL game at home against Burnley.

In a report monitored on Soccernet.ng, Agbonlahor, while talking on talk sport, wondered what more the Nigerian striker needs to do to deserve regular playing time and a place in the first team.

“You look at Iheanacho, what does he have to do to get a start?

“You know, like he comes on, scores and back on the bench.” Agbolahor said.

Leicester, who currently sit 13th on the English Premier League (EPL) table, but narrowly missed out of Champions League due to the exploits of Iheanacho last season, may need to give the striker more time to retain a spot in Europe this season.
