Former Premier League manager, Chris Hughton, is set to replace sacked head coach of Black Stars, Milovan Rajevac

Rajevac’s appointment was terminated by The Ghana Football Federation (GFA) after the Black Stars were ousted at the group stages of the 2021 African Cup of Nations currently going on in Cameroon.

According to Ghana Soccernet, GFA and the Sports Ministry met on Friday and decided on Hughton as Rajevac’s successor.

Chris Hughton, who travelled to Ghana to visit his family, was approved by the government and GFA to become a substantive coach after the meeting.

Otto Addo was the favourite for the job, but he has now lost out to the former Premier League boss.

The latest development means the 63-year-old tactician will likely be in charge of the double-header between Nigeria and Ghana in one of the 2022 FIFA World Cup playoffs next month.

The first leg of the encounter is billed to take place in Accra on March 24, while the return leg will take place in Lagos on March 26, 2022.

Meanwhile, ex-Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong believes the GFA failed the nation, by allowing the Government to impose Chris Hughton as the next Black Stars coach.

He made the assertion when speaking with GTV Sports Plus, where he insisted the GFA had ample opportunities to get a good coach before the government stepped in.

He said,  “The Ghana Football Association got themselves into this mess. They are the reason why the Government is deciding as to who to become the Black Stars coach.

“They were given the chance and on two occasions they failed the nation.”
