A former Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari in charge of the recovery of stolen assets, Chief Okoi Obono-Obla, has exposed humongous corruption in the past administration.
Obla who spoke with Seun Okinbaloye on The Mic On Podcast, speaks on how he was forced out of the Buhari government after uncovering $69 billion in an account in the U.S.
In the promo version of the interview, the full of which will be streamed on Saturday by 7:00pm, Obla described Buhari’s government as a failure in the fight against corruption.
He explained: “I got a letter from an American law firm in Texas saying they got access to a bank account that has over $69 billion, proceeds from stolen crude oil. They mentioned the name – Patrick Aziza. “
It is not clear if the same individual mentioned was the late Patrick Aziza, a retired Major General and former leader of the Urhobo Progressive Union who died in 2014.
In another snippet, Obla made another massive revelation. He said: “There was this case of someone we recovered 80 X Class Mercedes vehicles, brand new in a house in Jabi.”
He added: “A retired Major General Adamu Yusuf wrote a petition to my office saying that he was a whistle blower to a case that led to the recovery of $20 billion and 850m gold bars. I can’t go to the Villa and arrest Abba Kyari, Buhari Chief of Staff because every finger was pointing at him. That is just a tip of the iceberg.
Obla said Malami told his wife that “doesn’t Obla know that I’m the most powerful figure in this government, that this is our government.”
