Immediate past governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has been inducted into the College of Fellows of the Nigerian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

Immediate past governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has been inducted into the College of Fellows of the Nigerian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (NSBMB).
The induction ceremony took place today at the University of Port Harcourt.
The induction is in recognition of Ikpeazu’s contribution to the body of knowledge in the area of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
The investiture event was scheduled for yesterday but owing to the fact that Ikpeazu was outside the country and just arrived, he could not make it to the event.
The Society graciously moved the event to today, Wednesday, June 26 and Ikpeazu attended in person.

Dr. Ikpeazu holds the Bachelors’, Masters’ and Doctorate degrees in different aspects of Biochemistry. He taught the course at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in different Nigerian universities before the call for politics came.
He intends to attain Professorship in the field and has over 80 scientific articles published in different local and international journals.
He is also a co-author of the book, The Biochemistry of Environmental Pollution.
He is also a Fellow of the Nigeria Environmental Society.
The Nigerian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (NSBMB) had earlier last year nominated Ikpeazu for its legacy award.
NSBMB said that the nomination was a proof that not all academics were lost in the manipulative corridors of power once they got into appointive or elective office.
In a letter signed dated October 2023 16, the society observed that it is certainly not part of conventional logic for a thoroughbred Nigerian academic who holds political office, let alone one holding the high office of Governor to show proclivity for the academia.
NSBMB also confirmed in the letter that the former governor also co-authored a book on Environmental Biochemistry, while in power.
“Dr Ikpeazu has brought honour to the Biochemistry profession and on account thereof, the National Executive Council of NSBMB unanimously resolved to confer a Legacy Award on Your Excellency,” the society said.
