English Premier League (EPL) club, Everton have moved from 17th position to 15th after their punishment for breaching league financial rules was reduced from 10 points to six after an appeal.

In November, 2023, the Toffees were docked 10 points for breaching profit and sustainability rules (PSRs) in the three-year period to 2021-22.

The punishment which remains the biggest in history of the Premier League took them from 14th position to 19th on  the league table.

However, the current reduction in the ban has now lifted them above Brentford and Nottingham Forest
who were in the 15th and 16th positions respectively before the verdict.

A statement from the Premier League, which confirmed the development read: “Everton FC appealed the sanction imposed against it on nine grounds, each of which related to the sanction rather than the fact of the breach, which the club admitted.

“Two of those nine grounds were upheld by the appeal board, which has substituted the original points deduction of 10 for six.”

In arriving at the latest decision, the appeal board concluded that the independent commission’s initial ruling in November 2023 “made legal errors” on two grounds.
