EPL breaks for six weeks, to resume on November 14, eight days after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar

The English Premier League (EPL) has announced it will go on a six-week break during the 2022/23 season to give room for the hosting of the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

It will however resume eight days after the 2022 World Cup final as leagues around Europe take a mid-season break.

According to Eurosport, the campaign will start on August 6, 2022, with a six-week break taken from November 14. The final round of EPL fixtures of the season will be played on May 28, 2023.

Sixteen rounds of fixtures will be played from August 6, 2022, until the weekend of November 14, with the 2022/23 campaign to resume on Boxing Day, eight days after the World Cup final in Qatar on December 18.

The final weekend of the 2022/23 Premier League season will take place on May 28, 2023, six days later than the 2021/22 campaign is set to conclude.

The Qatar World Cup is being staged in November and December because temperatures can reach up to 50C in the summer months

This puts the World Cup in the middle of most domestic European seasons, forcing the EPL to take a break to allow national team players to participate.
