Enekwechi emerges first Nigerian athlete to qualify for Paris Olympics’ final

Enekwechi threw a distance of 21.13m in men’s shot put event to earn himself a place in Saturday’s final

Nigeria’s Chukwuebuka Enekwechi on Friday night qualified for the final of the men’s shot put event at the ongoing 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

The 31-year-old advanced to Saturday’s final after placing fifth overall in qualification Group B.

The African champion threw a distance of 21.13m to earn himself a place in the event’s final.

Enekwechi is the first Nigerian to make it to the final of any event at the ongoing games.

It would be recalled that he also made it to the final of the shot put event four years ago in Tokyo.

He would be hoping to make it to the podium by finishing in the top three.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s 4 X 400 mixed relay quartet crashed out of the event on Friday after coming 4th in the second heat. 

The team was in third position and was on the verge of qualifying automatically until Patience George was overtaken in the final hundred meters.
