#EndSARS: Nigerians vow never to forget #LekkiKillings

Nigerians preparing for another #EndSARS memorial

By Ishaya Ibrahim, News Editor

The Lagos State police command may have realised that it is foolhardy to stop the #EndSARS memorial protest scheduled for October 20. It had initially banned the planned procession, only to allow it with the condition that protesters should not block major roads.

The momentum on social media for the protest has made #EndSARS the major trending topic on Twitter. This may have forced the hand of the police, given the preparation of Nigerians to hit the road on October 20 in what they tag the #EndSARS memorial protest.

Here’s a tip of what Nigerians have been discussing online.

@AishaYesufu said: “While you clamour for recognition, they clamour for power. You get the optics and they get the legal control to the guns which they use to kill you. #Focus

“We will not forget the massacre of 20-10-2020 by the Nigerian government led by Buhari and Osinbajo #EndSars #LekkiMassacre.”

@ Yucee_said: “We came out to protest they turned it around and made us look like the bad guys Crying face we won’t forget the people we lost in this battle and we are not giving up #EndSARS #EndSARSMemorial.”

@LARRYEMNANUEL10 said: “Lekki toll gate should no longer be a money-making venture but a monument of freedom in memory of the victims of black Tuesday. #endSARS #EndSARSMemorial.”

@SavvyRinu said: “Just last month, at least 10 young people were extrajudicially killed by criminal police officers across Nigeria. They say they have ended SARS. Have the killings & extortions stopped? #EndSARS”

@TexTheLaw said: “Has any Police reform happened since last year’s protests? NO
