Protesters

By Julius Alabi, Akure

All the popular roads and streets in Akure, the Ondo State capital were deserted as commuters, businessmen and market women remained indoors following the commencement of End Hunger Protests across Nigeria.

The popular Oyemekun road, Oba Adesida, Arakale, Ondo, Oda, Idanre and Ijoka roads located in the heart of the ancient city of Akure were empty without the usual vehicular or human traffic, unlike the normal day when the road was always busy with activities.

When TheNiche went around the state capital, shops, petrol stations, malls, and event centres were completely shut down to avoid falling victim to the protest fallout.

Also, all the government offices located at Alagbaka, including the Governor’s Office were all without any activities.

However, security operatives were seen at some strategic locations and some identified flash points to maintain law and order during the protest.

Young folks used the opportunity of deserted roads to play soccer in the peaceful state.
