Ahead of their planned demonstrations on October 1, 2024. Organizers of the #EndBadGovernance protests have issued a 17-point ultimatum to the Federal Government

The ultimatum comes barely two weeks after the suspension of the first phase of the protests which lasted between August 1 and 10 and witnessed destruction of properties in some parts of the country, especially in the north.

One of the organizers of the October protest, Omoyele Sowore, released a list on Tuesday. Part of the demands is the scrapping of the 1999 Constitution, its replacement with a people-made constitution, and the restructuring of Nigeria to accommodate its diversity.

Others include the immediate and unconditional release of detained protesters, the unfreezing of their assets, and compensation for the distress and hardships endured during peaceful demonstrations.

The movement also called for the removal and prosecution of government officials accused of suppressing protests and violating human rights.

Other demands include: “Pay Nigerian workers a minimum wage of no less than N250,000 monthly.

“Invest heavily in education and provide Nigerian students with grants, not loans. Aggressively pursue free and compulsory education for children across Nigeria.

“Release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu unconditionally and demilitarize the South-East. All #ENDSARS and political detainees must also be released and compensated, among other demands.”

At the height of the earlier protest, President Bola Tinubu made a nationwide address in which he listed some of the achievements of his administration and made pledges on other steps to be taken to reposition the country.

At the end of the protest, Sowore, former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), commended the success of the exercise. “The oppressed Nigerians succeeded before the protest, during the protest, and continue to succeed after the protest,” he emphasized.
