Emotional slavery

There is no success story without a sorry past

This can be defined as a state of being caged or kept perpetually by one’s past life, mistakes or hurts. There is no life without a past. I have not seen a truly wealthy man without the past story of abject poverty and hardship. Show me a man/woman of sweet love life and enduring marital bliss and I will show you that the past of such men/women is not without bitter experiences of many heartbreaks and disappointments. Tell me about someone who is sound in health and has even become a health educator and I will tell you that once upon a time in their lifetime, they had been bedridden with no hope of surviving.

There is no success story without a sorry past. No testimony without a test or trial. The bible says in Isaiah 60:1 “Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of God has risen upon thee.” You need to rise from where life has left you.

Your decisions yesterday were responsible for your trauma today; your decisions today will determine where you will be tomorrow. Your past is past. You can’t change anything about it. Hence, stop holding on to things that will not add any value to your life. Stop being emotionally enslaved! “Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert” (Isaiah 43:18-19).

If you don’t close the door behind you, you can’t open the one in front of you. And in case you open the front door, the unclosed back door will continually be a distraction to you. God promises to do a new thing in our lives provided we are ready to let go of our past with all its negative feelings.

You have a future. God says: “I know the thoughts that I think towards you, thoughts of peace, and not of evil to give you an expected end” (Jer. 29:11).

The scripture contains examples of so many people with serious emotional problems, but they got to their place in destiny because they believe God

*Joseph had emotional problems with his immediate family. He was misunderstood and they sold him into slavery, yet God met him there. God will meet you where you are!

*Modeccai had emotional problem. He was meant to be killed, but his enemies died in his stead. Your enemies will die in your place.

*Hannah was barren and laughed to scorn by people including her rival, but she laughed last and had promising and outstanding children. You will laugh last.

* The woman with the issue of blood suffered so many humiliations from many doctors to no avail, but a step of faith put an end to her problem. Your bold step will bury that problem you are facing. Take a step by faith.

The list is endless! If they overcame, you will overcome.

When you are emotionally enslaved, you will have the following problems:

(ii) Lack of trust in anyone.

(iii) Unforgiving spirit
(iv) Lack of self confidence
(v) Low self esteem
(vi) Suspicion spirit
(vii) Hatred and bitterness spirit, etc.
Anyone with all the enumerated above cannot experience a notable progress in life. Let go of your past and let God. Your future holds better things than your past.
Have you been jilted by a man? Don’t see every man as a cheat.

Have you been duped by fraudsters? Don’t see every business opportunity as a fraud on you.

Have you been falsely accused of what you knew nothing about? Don’t dwell on it. Whatever it is that has enslaved you emotionally, give it up for a better you and the future will be yours.

I know a woman who lost her only boy of 24 years old to accident. She was already 52 years old. Her husband was so rich that a male child became necessity in the family. The husband’s family soon began arranging for another wife since she has entered menopause. She was enslaved in this for a whole year without any solution; rather she was looking older until a man invited her for our programme on Tuesdays. God spotted her out. She was prayed for. And God promised to restore her joy. She believed the man of God. That month, she took in and nobody, including doctors, believed her. They said she had fibroid. But nine months after, she was delivered of twins, two baby boys, all strong and healthy.

What can God not do? Trust God and step out of your emotional problems created by your past. Your trials will surely give way to resounding testimonies.

Prayer points
1) Lord, heal my wounded heart by your mercy in Jesus name.
2) Every power holding me down to my past should die in Jesus name.
3) Oh Lord, deliver me from every pain of the heart that brought me down.
4) Lord, raise me up again into my place of destiny by your mighty power.
5) I refuse to be crushed by my past life in the name of Jesus.
