The Emir of Katagum in Bauchi State, Alhaji Muhammad Kabir Umar, who died on Saturday evening, has been laid to rest.
Alhaji Kabir Umar, was the 11th Emir of Katagum until his death and the vice chairman of the Bauchi State Council of Traditional Rulers.
It was gathered that Alhaji Kabir Umar had been sick for a few years now.
The late Emir, who died at the age of 89, was and survived by four wives and 49 children.
Among his children are Alhaji Baba Umar Faruq, a retired Federal Permanent Secretary, who is also the district Head of Shira.
Presidsent Muhammadu Buhari was among sympharizers that attended the funeral prayer of the late Emir in Bauchi on Sunday.
The prayer, which was led by the Chief Imam of Azare, Malam Ayuba Muhammad, was attended by Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi; Governor Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar of Bauchi State and his Borno, Yobe and Jigawa counterparts as well as members of the National Assembly, ministers and other top government functionaries from across the country.
President Buhari was represented by the Chief of Staff of Presidential Villa, Alhaji Abba Kyari, who also led the federal government’s delegation which included the Minister of the FCT Malam Muhammad Bello, Controller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Colonel Hamid Ali (rtd), and other top government functionaries.
Condoling the family of the deceased and the people of the state, Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar described the death of the deceased as a great loss not only to the state but the nation.
He said that the late Emir of Katagum contributed positively towards the development of Katagum, Bauchi State and the nation.
Governor Abubakar prayed Allah to grant his soul eternal rest and his family and the people of the state the courage to bear the loss.
