Emir of Kano dies at 84

The Emir of Kano is dead. He died early today in Kano according to family sources.

Bayero was the son of Abdullahi Bayero dan Muhammad Abbas. He was the 13th Fulani emir since the Fulani War of Usman dan Fodio, when the Fulani took over the Hausa city-states. He was among the strongest and powerful emirs in the history of the Hausa land.

He will be buried today.

Already the city of Kanon is besieged by dignitaries from all over the country.

Vice President Namadi Sambo is expected to lead the Federal Government delegation at the burial.

Kwakwanso who is at the 4th retreat of the Nigeria Governors Forum, NGF going on in PortHarcourt is preparing to leave for Kano.

Meanwhile, the NGF retreat is about starting at the Banquet Hall of the Rivers State Government House.

Already seated are Governors Rotimi Amaechi, Murtala Nyako, Abiola Ajimobi, Wammako of Sokoto, Rocha’s Okorocha, Kayode Fayemi.

Governors Fashola and Oshiomhole are also in town.
