Emir commends CITAD over promotion of ICT in North

Emir of Jama’are in Bauchi State, Alhaji Ahmed Muhammed Wabi, has commended the Centre for Information Technology And Development (CITAD) for promoting computer literacy and information communication technology (ICT) in the northern part of the country.

He gave the commendation during an inter schools Quiz competition organized by the CITAD among eight secondary schools in the local government held at Wabi Academy Jama’are.

The Emir, who was represented by the ‘Sarkin Yaki’ of Jama’are, Alhaji Sabo Likita, said that the establishment of area office by CITAD in the local government helped a lot in promoting computer literacy among the citizens of the local government.

He also said that the NGO’s intervention in educational programs in schools in the area ‘enhances academic excellence and scholarship among students’.

The Emir urged other NGOs to extend their programmes especially on education to rural areas ‘that still lag behind in terms of literacy’.

Besides, the Executive Director of CITAD, Ya’u Zakari Ya’u, represented by his staff Ahmad Yakassai, had explained that the centre had been organizing quiz competitions on ICT for over 16 years in different states to promote information technology, adding that it now ‘extends the programme beyond ICT to general subjects to boost students’ morale.

He called on schools principals to sustain the programme by organizing similar quizzes on basic subjects at least every term.

The students participated in quizzes in English language, Sciences, Current affairs, poetry, story telling and debates during the CITAD’s inter schools competition.
