Emefiele ‘moves out’ of CBN governor’s quarters in Lagos

The EFCC said that on February 8, 2023, Emefiele connived with Ocheme to obtain $6.2 million from the CBN, claiming that it was requested by the SGF through a letter dated January 26, 2023.

The immediate past governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has reportedly begun moving out of the quarters made for the apex bank’s governor in Lagos.

Mr Emefiele was accompanied to the quarters by a team led by the CBN Special Investigator, Jim Obazee, The Nation reports on Saturday.

The CBN governor’s quarters is located on Glover Road, Ikoyi.

The newspaper did not say if Emefiele began taking his personal items on Saturday.

Mr Emefiele is being tried on a 20-count amended criminal charge preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The amended charges border on alleged criminal breach of trust, forgery, conspiracy to commit forgery, procurement fraud and conspiracy to commit a felony.

According to the EFCC, Emefiele’s co-conspirator Odoh Ocheme is on the run.

The anti-graft agency said that on February 8, 2023, Emefiele connived with Ocheme to obtain $6.2 million from the CBN, claiming that it was requested by the SGF through a letter dated January 26, 2023 with Ref No. SGF.43/L.01/.

President Bola Tinubu removed him from his position as CBN governor in June 2023.
