Eguma defends draw against Enyimba

Dolphins head coach, Stanley Eguma, has defended the one-all draw recorded by his team against Enyimba International last Sunday in Port Harcourt, which affected the chances of the Aba side from winning this year’s league title.

He said: “Enyimba is a good side and deserves to win the league title, but they (the players) didn’t lift their game against us. I give kudos to my players who did very well.

“I never expected them to play as well as they did against Enyimba. Their lack of training affected our game, but we can’t take anything from Enyimba, a good side.

“It’s unfortunate that Enyimba could not lift the game enough to beat Dolphins. It’s one of those things.”

Reacting to accusations by purported fans of Enyimba that he refused to throw the game to them, Eguma said it is not in the character of Dolphins to fix matches.

He said: “It is not in our character to sell matches or go into negotiations before games. What we do is to give our best every time we play.”

Enyimba needed to beat Dolphins in Port Harcourt to go into the last game of the season with just two points behind Kano Pillars who it hosts in Aba today.

However, with that draw in Port Harcourt, Pillars has won the title even before today’s game against Enyimba in Aba.
