Super Eagles interim manager, Austin Eguavoen, has blamed Kelechi Iheanacho’s dwindling form for playing different roles for club and country.

The gaffer made this known while speaking as a guest of Elegbete TV, where he spoke on a range of issues concerning the Super Eagles.

According to Eguavoen, Iheanacho’s form has been dwindling because the 25-year-old plays two different roles at his club, Leicester City, and when donning the shirt of Super Eagles.

While Leicester manager, Brendan Rodgers, plays Iheanacho ahead of another striker most times, Rohr prefers playing him behind another striker when playing for the Super Eagles.

The former City striker has been in scintillating form for his club since the end of last season and has continued the feat this season but still some in from the bench, his coach also brought in another striker, Patson Daka, during summer transfer.

He has also not been able to display the form at the club while playing for the Super Eagles, his last goal for the team was during the first World cup qualifier against Liberia in Lagos.

Eguavoen believes the reason for Iheanacho’s struggles can be traced to the fact that he plays different roles for Leicester and Super Eagles and opines that once he sticks to a position, his form will improve.

He said: “Iheanacho is okay, but the only little problem is in Leicester, he is playing a different position.

“He comes to Nigeria, he plays in a different position.”

“I think the sooner he settles for one position, I think the better for him”

Iheanacho is expected to be part of Eguavoen’s Super Eagles team for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, in Cameroon and he will be expected to score goals for the team, especially will Victor Osimhen’s participation in doubt.
