Around 40 special detectives from Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbedokun monitoring team have been deployed to intensify the search for the arrest of Kano Governor Abba Yusuf’s spokesperson, Bature Dawakin-Tofa.

The surveillance has continued despite  a restraining court order issued on December 12.

The officers were allegedly sent from Abuja to arrest Bature on the instruction of former Kano Governor now All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje.

The sleuths have been reportedly lodged at Tahir Guests Palace for two weeks to execute the mandate.

The deployment came after Ganduje allegedly petitioned Egbetokun over Ganduje’s reported suspension from his ward in Dawakin-Tofa Council in Kano, accusing Bature who is from his constituency of orchestrating the fiasco.

Family sources told Leadership Newspaper that the team of detectives in plain clothes were seen mounting surveillance around the residence of Bature on Monday as part of the ground strategy to nab him.

A relative who pleaded to remain anonymous for security reasons lamented that the secret police ransacked the residence more than five times, scaring members of Bature’s family, including his wife and children, and creating tension in the neighbourhood.

The IGP Special Force spreads the dragnet for Bature’s arrest despite a court order restraining the IGP, Department of State Services (DSS), Kano Police Commissioner, and other security agencies from arresting and or harassing him.

Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu of the Kano State High Court last Thursday granted an exparte application preventing further manhunt for Bature pending hearing on the substantive matter of his fundamental rights scheduled for 22 January 2025.

The animosity between Bature and Ganduje dates back nine years to 2015 when Ganduje as then-Governor-elect reportedly ordered Bature’s arrest over his opposition during the election campaign.

In the latest stanza, Ganduje was said to have petitioned Egbetokun accusing Bature of being the brain behind his suspension by APC ward executives some months ago.
