The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has disclosed that many celebrities who are suspected to have mutilated the Naira at one point or the other are currently being  investigated by the agency.

This was made known in a statement signed and made available to journalists on Sunday by the financial crime agency’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale.

TheNiche had earlier reported that popular cross-dresser and social media influencer, Idris Okuneye aka Bobrisky bagged six months jail term for abusing the Naira after he was charged to court by EFCC a few weeks ago.

Justice Abimbola Awogboro of Lagos Federal High Court handed down the sentence without an option of fine.

Speaking on the commission’s resolve to stamp out Naira abuse, Oyewale in the statement claimed the anti-graft agency has invited several celebrities for questioning, and they have provided valuable information during the interrogation process.

He went on to advise that the public should be wary of running afoul of laws prohibiting the abuse of Naira.

“At the moment, the Commission is investigating several celebrities involved in Naira abuse.

“Many of them have made useful statements to the Commission and many more have been invited by investigators working on the matter.

“The EFCC will not relent in its no-sacred-cow mode of operations and the public should be wary of running afoul of laws against the crime,” the statement read in part.
