The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC,) has denied involvement over the raid on  the residence of a Justice of  Supreme Court, Justice  Mary Ukaego Peter Odili, wife of former  governor of Rivers State, Dr. Peter Odili

In a statement late Friday, EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren debunked the media speculations and urged the public to disregard the report.

He said, “The attention of EFCC has been drawn to claims in a section of the media that its operatives stormed Justice Odili’s home purportedly to execute a search in Maitama, Abuja.

“The Commission by this statement wishes to inform the public that the report is false as it did not carry out any operation at the home of Justice Odili.

“If there was any such operation as claimed by the media, it was not carried out by the EFCC.

“The Commission enjoins the public to discountenance the report, he said.

Recall that in October 2016, the DSS raided the homes of two Supreme Court Justices and some High Court Judges, claiming to be looking for evidence of corruption.

Meanwhile, the police have kept mute over the raid on Friday night after about 50 of their men stormed the Abuja residence of Justice Mary Odili.

After initial confusion about the identity of the armed men, it was later found out that they were policemen, acting on the intelligence that ‘some illegal activities’ were going on there.

Up till midnight Friday, the police were yet to explain the reason for their action.

It is also not clear what the policemen took away after a search of the house.

A concerned Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State on hearing the embarrassing incident, raced to the house to find out what happened.

69-year old Justice Mary Odili, was appointed justice of the Supreme Court in 2011 by President Goodluck Jonathan.

She is the most senior justice after the incumbent Chief Justice Ibrahim Tanko Mohammad, following the retirements of Justice  Bode Rhodes-Vivour and Justice Nwali Sylvester Ngwuta.
