A press statement by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has argued that its chairman, Ibrahim Magu, was quoted out of context in a speech he delivered at the graduation ceremony of its operatives in Kaduna.
The EFCC was reacting to an article published in the February 23 edition of Thisday newspaper titled: ‘Magu’s curious postulation on Covid 19.’
After the EFCC statement, the article disappeared on the website of the newspaper.
In video of the event that has gone viral, Magu had said: ‘Your excellency, corruption is the biggest strategy to human kind. Your excellency, corruption is worse than all the diseases now running about. And I strongly believe your excellency that even Corona virus is caused by corruption.’
But a statement signed by Tony Orilade, the commission’s spokesman, rejigged what Magu said. Orilade argued that what Magu said was: “Y our Excellency, corruption is worse than cancer, Ebola-virus, Corona-virus and all other deadly diseases put together.”
On twitter, @The042Network, posted the video of Magu making the comment and said : “You guys sometimes forget that not all Nigerians sold their brains to you for 30k per month. Now listen to your chairman speak and tell us again, what we need to understand from it,” he said.
A tweet by @furmud said: “Wetin Nigerians no go see in the hands of public servants? EFCC are saying Nigerians have hearing problem.”
Also, @AbiolaMykel said “I swear I can’t talk . Just weak.”
