EExperts commend security agencies performance during general elections

Security experts in Lagos on Tuesday commended the efforts of the Police and other law enforcement agencies in ensuring a violence-free general elections.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) they said that the agencies kept their promises of providing maximum security during the elections.

Mr Charles Sullivan, Head, Media Operations at Bells Security Ltd., said though he underestimated the commitment of these agencies, their performances proved otherwise.

“A lot of people had predicted pre- and post-election violence, but thanks to the security agencies that left no stone unturned in ensuring adequate security of lives and property,’’ he added.

Similarly, a security consultant, Mr Segun Lawal, commended them for being pro-active.

“The security agencies have been able to manage the elections period in a professional way. This will of course earn them more of the people’s trust,’’ he said.

For Mr David Bamidele, though there were few lapses, their overall performances outweighed such challenges.

He noted that some security officials were “too aggressive’’ during the elections which could in itself spark violence.

“It’s high time some security officials realised that the people are not to be frightened but protected and assured of carrying out their duties,’’ he said.

He added that the type of synergy mapped out by the security agencies should be continuous.
