Shortly after President Muhammadu Buhari said he was committed to free and fair governorship election in Edo State, Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said that such a commitment should go beyond lip service.

Atiku was reacting to a report that at least 300 policemen have barricaded the hotel where the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign council for the Edo election and Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike, was lodging.

He tweeted via his verified twitter account that: “A promise of free and fair election cannot be mere lip service. It’s a commitment and should be demonstrated by way of equal access and restriction to every stakeholder. Blockading the hotel of @OfficialPDPNig governors in the eve of the Edo election isn’t a good way to show fairness.” He said.
