Edo State-born politician, Hosa Okunbo, dies at 63

After a long battle with pancreatic cancer, Edo State-born politician, philanthropist and business mogul, Captain Hosa Okunbo, has died in a London hospital.

Captain Okunbo took seriously ill after the last Edo State governorship election in which he pitched his tent with Pastor Ize-Iyamu, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

His candidate lost to the incumbent, Governor Godwin Obaseki, who ran on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He was flown to London shortly after the election and didn’t return to the country until his death.

There was rumour of his death thereafter but his family debunked it.

The 63-year-old Captain Hosa who is one of the wealthiest men from Edo State died on Saturday night.

He moved to London in August 2020 to receive treatment for his ailment where he was told he had less than nine months to live. He died 12 months later.

Captain Hosa is survived by wife, Nosa Okunbo, and children.
