The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Edo State chapter has condemned the high rate of insecurity, the “illegal withdrawal and spending of nation’s resources” without due and constitutionally prescribed process.

While describing the act as executive tyranny, the party backed the current effort by members of the National Assembly to stem the ugly tide.

Through its state Chairman, Chief Dan Osi Orbih, PDP lamented:

“No nation can survive under the weight of executive tyranny, hence we call on all Nigerians to come out and voice their support for members of the National Assembly who are being harassed, intimidated and persecuted for daring to speak.”

The chairman pointed out that

legislature all over the world is the key component of democratic practice, stressing, “No nation can survive under the weight of executive dictatorship as we are experiencing under the Buhari presidency.”

He warned that any attempt to undermine National Assembly’s constitutional role would spell doom for the country’s democracy.

Orbih also commended Senator Matthew Urhoghide, the chairman, Public Accounts Committee, for his quality representation of Edo South Senatorial district and the PDP.

The chairman said that the lawmaker has justified the party’s confidence by his incisive, quality and patriotic contributions in the Senate at the period of democratic trials.

“We call on all members of the National Assembly not to relent in their effort in repositioning our democratic values where the Three Arms of Government are allowed to play their role in the overall interest of the nation.

“Edo PDP stand with the National Assembly and the Nigerian People,” Orbih stated.
