Edo Athletics Association hails Mabel Madojiemu U-15 Champs, as it ends on high note

Athletes and game masters scored the 3rd Mabel Madojiemu Athletics Championships high when the event ended on Friday.

Also, Edo State Sports Commission executive chairman, Yusuf Alli and the Edo Athletics Association chairman, Dele Edokpayi expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the championships, which ran from April 25-26 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.

“This is a competition we always looked forward to and I’m glad to be competing for the second time,” said Treasure Omosivwe of Jato Grammar school Benin City who set a meet record of 1.55m in the high jump and got brand new spike shoes.

“Without this competition we wouldn’t have the opportunity of performing and dreaming of representing Edo State and Nigeria at future events.”

Mr. Edokpayi who made a donation of N1.1m said: “The championships is a major step towards revival of athletics in the country, we must support Mabel Madojiemu in whatever way we can.

“From these Championships we have seen talents who we can groom to become world champions.”
