Popular media personality and former Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) housemate, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, has described fame as “a necessary evil that comes with having a career that is public.”

Ebuka, who has since become the host of BBNaija reality show, made the assertion on Channels TV’s programme, Rubbin’ Minds, co-hosted by reality stars, Beauty Tukura and Prince Nelson.

He, however, admitted that there are benefits that come with fame, but quickly added that he would rather choose his career and the monetary benefits instead of celebrity status.

He said: “I have never been a fan of fame. And if you know me, I think you can tell. But I have also understood that it comes with what I do.

“I have never courted fame. I have never chased fame. I have never really sort of thrived in it. I’m not the kind of guy who is going to our things out to be talked about. So, most times if you see me being talked about, it’s because of my work. It’s not because I did something outside of my work.

“I don’t know that I enjoyed fame or I have ever really liked it that much. I mean, it comes with its benefits, I can never deny that. But I also understand that it is a necessary evil that comes with having a career that is public.

“But if you left me with an option, I would take the career with the money that is coming with it and not be famous.”

The father of two during the interview also revealed his all-time favourite participants of the reality show and what attracted him to them.

According to the 41-year-old lawyer, those whom he takes interest in are the housemates who come into the show with an element of surprise.

“I can give you a number of people [my favourite BBNaija housemates]. There was Gideon who was in my season. He was amazing. I liked everybody who surprised me because I got a lot of your profiles before the show starts and I think, ‘This person go dry’. So, the ones who ended up going in and I’m like, ‘Wow! Okay, I didn’t see that coming.’ And you [Beauty] were one of them because I thought you were going to be a dead babe but you were not so dead [laughs].

“So, that was a little surprising. People that give me drama. You [Prince], I don’t know if your drama was intentional, but you had a community around you [laughs].

“I have also enjoyed people who played the game… I have given you three names [of my all-time BBNaija favourites] already. One thing I’ve grown to like a lot less over the seasons are people who come in and say, ‘I was just myself.’ It’s a good thing, but I also say that there is money to be won, how do you not come in with a game plan?

“I always feel like, if you are coming to win N100 million, whatever it is, there should be some plan. And we don’t get that very often. Pere gave us a bit of that, then sort of disappeared at some point when I dragged him small and he sort of chilled. I like people who play the game and stick with it. Miracle did that quite a bit. Miracle and Tobi in their season. They had a bit of competition that was very interesting. But they also had woman matter around them.” Ebuka further said.
