Eaglets to open camp on Dec. 14

The Golden Eaglets are expected in camp on December 14 in earnest preparation for the CAF Under-17 Championship to be hosted in Niger from February 15 and March 1, 2015.

The U-17 national team are the defending world champions having won the FIFA U-17 World Cup last year in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after defeating Mexico 3-0 in the final.

The race to the next World Cup finals to be hosted by Chile will hot up in Niger Republic and the Eaglets are among the eight countries that will vie for the four slots to be filled by Africa.

Eaglets’ media officer, Morakinyo Abodunrin said that everything is set for the camping exercise and that the players that would be called up for its commencement have been communicated.

“Eaglets will resume camping for the CAF U-17 Championship from December 14th and we are hoping to have the best of preparation so that Nigeria will go a step further at the qualifying competition for the World Cup by winning it this term,” Abodunrin explained.

Nigeria narrowly lost on penalties to Cote d’Ivoire at the African Championship last year after playing a 1-1 draw in the final but Manu Garba’s team surprised the world in the UAE by winning the title for the fourth time for the country, all on Asian soil.
