DSS declines comment on official who jumped into Lagos Lagoon

The Department of State Services (DSS) has neither confirmed nor denied a report that one of its officials, Adetutu Adedokun, committed suicide by jumping into a Lagos Lagoon.

Recall that a lady who was later identified as Adetutu Adedokun, jumped into the Lagos Lagoon last Thursday afternoon.  

Further probe later revealed that the lady was a DSS official.

According to reporting by Nation Newspaper, the spokesperson for the DSS, Peter Afunaya, said he was not aware of the incident. “I don’t know and have no comments to make, please.”

The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, in a statement on Friday, confirmed Adedokun’s identity as a DSS official.

The Uber driver, who drove Adedokun, reportedly claimed she was having a conversation with her fiancé on the phone before alighting from the car and jumping into the lagoon.

Adedokun, who is in her late 30s, was said to have received a letter of commendation from the Director-General of the DSS, Yusuf Bichi, as the best-unarmed combat operative in her set a few months ago.

Meanwhile, the General Manager of Lagos State Waterways Authority, Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, said the victim’s body was yet to be found.
