The Department of Petroleum Resources ( DPR) says it is collaborating with the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) to curb the manufacturing and sale of substandard lubricants in the country.
Engr. Sarki Auwalu, Director and Chief Executive Officer, DPR made the disclosure recently while unveiling agency’s Downstream Remote Monitoring System ( DRMS) platform to agencies in the petroleum sector.
Auwalu said some manufacturers recycle engine oil and other substandard lubricants and package them for sale to innocent Nigerians.
He noted that this had adverse effects on vehicle engines as well as generators, adding that the DPR was working with SON to rid the market of such activities.
Auwalu also called for more collaboration among agencies in the petroleum sector to curb cross border smuggling and diversion of products.
He said the regulatory agency would continue to initiate appropriate initiatives to enable business and create opportunities for investors and stakeholders in the oil and gas industry in Nigeria.
