DPO advocates special court for rape cases

Mohammed Abubakar, Police IG

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Offa Local Government, Kwara, Mr Emmanuel Aina, has advocated establishment of a special court for speedy trial of rape cases in the country.

Aina made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin on Thursday.

He said that in spite of the stiff penalty against rape in the country, the law was not being enforced.

The DPO said the victims were always afraid of identifying themselves as rape victims and to pursue their cases in the open court.

Aina attributed the rise in rape cases to the high spate of unemployment among youths, which he said, was caused by the fall in societal moral values.

He urged students to shun act of indiscipline and focus on their studies.
