Don advocates fresh ideas to tackle insurgency

A university don, Dr Chuba Ezeh, has urged politicians and elders statesmen to support the ongoing efforts at tackling insurgency in the country through fresh ideas.

Ezeh, who is a senior lecturer with the Political Science Department of Anambra State University, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Igbariam, near Onitsha, that the insurgency was a major threat to the February polls.

He decried the loss of lives and destruction of property to insurgency and terror attack on a daily basis.

“It is very unfortunate that we have politicised security and the Nigerian state.

“And security is always an issue of political relevance but the way we are trying to leave out the issue of security within the context of Nigeria is very unfortunate, especially with respect to the dreaded Boko Haram.

“One cannot but begin to feel the pinch, the sadness about the gory tales of lives being wasted on daily basis. It is a moment of rallying point.

“If they say that Nigeria is an artificial creation; a relation that has lasted for more than 100 years is no longer a joke. It is better for us to forge ahead than to disunite because all of us are stakeholders.

“Anybody that knows the solution should bring it forward as a statesman. You don’t need to be begged.

“Security is everybody’s business; it is not government business alone.’’

The don said that more territories were captured by the terrorists on daily basis with catastrophic destruction of houses and civilisation.

Ezeh urged all Nigerians to view the current spate of insurgency in the country with the seriousness it deserved and support the government by contributing their quota towards stamping it out. (NAN)
