The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Yakubu Dogara, has urged Nigerians to fight for peace and unity of the country irrespective of religion and political differences.
Dogara made the call in Pankshin at a funeral service of the paramount ruler of the Ngas, the Ngolong Ngas, late Joshua Dimlong.
“No matter what, as Nigerians, we should not compromise our unity and the peace of our nation for the attainment of its desired growth and development.
“We must join hands with this new administration to salvage and rebuild Nigeria for a better tomorrow,’’ he said.
Represented by Rep. Timothy Golu (PDP-Plateau), Yakubu said the late ruler was a man who stood for peace and unity of Plateau and Nigeria as a whole.
Dogara, who condoled with the people of Plateau, said he was a beneficiary of Dimlong’s wise counsels and prayed for the repose of his soul.
Also, Gov. Simon Lalong of Plateau, called on the people of the state to keep the legacies the Ngolong Ngas left behind.
“Dimlong left legacies of peace and unity, and a man who loved his people,’’ the governor said.
Represented by Mr Sonny Tyoden, the Deputy Governor, Lalong described the death of the paramount ruler as ahuge loss to the people of plateau especially the Ngas nation.
Senators Joshua Dariye and Jeremiah Useni, cautioned against rancour among the Ngas people in seeking for the vacant stool of Ngolong Ngas.
