A medical doctor is scheduled for arraignment today at the Ikeja Sexual Offences Court for having allegedly raped for 19 months a 15-year-old girl who began to live with him and his wife after the death of her father.

The punishment for rape is a minimum of 12 years in prison without the option of  fine and a maximum of life in prison.

The man identified simply as Olaleye allegedly introduced the teenager to pornography, a crime in itself, and proceeded to raping her. She is the niece of his wife.

The wife discovered the sexual abuse after it had gone on for 19 months and reported it to the police for investigation, according to reporting by The PUNCH.

Police arrested Olaleye and the case was transferred to the Gender Unit of the police command, where Investigative Police Officer Bimbo Williams was assigned to it in March. But the case dragged.

His wife, suspecting he might not be prosecuted and punished, wrote a petition to the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Agency to intervene.

The agency forwarded the case file to the Directorate of Public Prosecution and recommended Olaleye for trial.

The PUNCH reports it learnt he would be arraigned today at the Sexual Offences Court, Ikeja, Lagos.

Teenage girl wants her father jailed for raping her to have baby for her stepmother

Three weeks ago, an 18-year-old girl appealed to Rivers Police Commissioner Okon Effiong to prosecute her father who allegedly rapes her and wants her to bear children for his wife (her stepmother) who has had no child since they got married in 2010.

Otuoye alleged her father beats and threatens her with machete before forcefully having sex with her.

She said her father was once arrested when she reported the matter to the police, but the investigating police officer released him.

She has called on Effiong to prevail on the State Criminal and Investigation Department (SCID) to charge her father with sexual assault.

“My father raped me four good times since he brought me back from Aba (Abia State).

“He has been sleeping with me in the house. Then he wanted me to do IVF for him and his wife who has not given birth to any child for 12 good years,” she told The PUNCH.

“When I refused his advances, he started sleeping with me forcefully with a machete. Sometimes, he uses a pen knife and a machete to beat me.

“He beats me every day before sleeping with me. When his wife tells him to stop, he will tell her that he is trying to correct me; that I am a stubborn girl.

“He calls me a prostitute that I want to become wayward. I need help. I want the Commissioner of Police to help. I need justice.”

State police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko said she had just returned from a trip outside the state but promised to find out about the case.

Ekiti court jails man for life for raping teenager

An Ado Ekiti High Court on 1 November 2022 sentenced Ilesanmi Adewale, 42, to life imprisonment for raping a 16-year-old girl in Isan Ekiti on 13 February 2021.

Adewale was arraigned on 16 December 2021 after the police investigated the case.

“My father sent me to Iludun Ekiti from Isan Ekiti to bring his ATM card and the N8,000 he kept at home,” the victim recounted in her statement to the police.

“On my way back to Isan, I boarded a commercial driver’s car; I was alone with him in the car. He first touched my breast and I cautioned him to stop it.

“On getting to a bush between Isan and Iludun, when he stopped the car, I opened the door and ran away. He pursued, caught me and carried me on his shoulder to a nearby bush.

“He threatened to kill me with the cutlass [machete] in his hand if I refused to cooperate. He removed my pants and forcibly had sexual intercourse with me. I bit his hands and tore his clothes as I cried, but he refused to leave me.

“Then, he collected my father’s ATM card and N8,000 from me. When he returned them to me, he begged me not to tell my father.

“But as I got back to the road, I saw my father on a motorcycle. I narrated what happened to him; the driver was arrested and later taken to a police station.”

Police Prosecutor Folashade Alli called three witnesses and tendered as evidence the victim’s pants, a machete, a medical report and Adewale’s statements, among other exhibits.

Adewale spoke through his counsel and called no witnesses.

“The crime of rape of a minor is assuming a frightening dimension in this jurisdiction. I cannot contradict the terms imposed by the law,” Justice Monisola Abodunde said in her judgment.

“The mandatory provision is that once a defendant is convicted of rape, he is liable to imprisonment for life.

“Based on the above reasoning and in strict adherence with the provisions of the law, I have no alternative than to sentence the defendant to life imprisonment and I so hold.”
