The National Association for Women in Sports (NAWIS) representative on the AFN board Rosa Collins has praised the new African 100mh Record holder Tobi Amusan for making women in Sports proud in the Diamond League Final in Zurich.
“This galant Athlete has made all women in sports very proud and we in NAWIS congratulates her for the unprecedented achievement.
Collins, unbehalf of NAWIS officials and members hailed the 24 year old hurdler for her courage in putting up a brilliant effort that speaks much of the ability of Nigerian female Athletes in recent times.
In congratulating Amusan, Collins vowed to use her position as the AFN vice president in ensuring that the welfare and interest of all female Athletes and coaches are protected in all scheme of things.
” I m confident that Amusan’s victory would encourage other female Athletes in taking their trainings seriously and achieve such feat in future.
The former national record holder in triple jump (13:80secs) reiterated that Amusan’s feat would also spur women in sports into action to scout for more female sports talents in the country.
“We in NAWIS are desirous in making sure our talented girls in schools are fished out early to practices sports, adding that Amusan would not have achieved this feat if she was not discovered early.
At 24, She is already a world and African Champion, a great feat for emulation.
Collins however pleaded to parents to release their talented wards for sports related activities, insisting that sports can motive and provide successful Athletes means of livelihood in future.
