Diamond League: Amusan forecasts victory in Stockolm, Oregon champs

African record holder in women’s 100m hurdles Tobi Amusan expect more gold medals in Diamond league in Stockholm and Commonwealth Games in July.

Amusan, the World Athletics Diamond League champion on Saturday won in the women’s 100m hurdles in a new African record of 12.41 beating world indoor silver medallist Devynne Charlton from the Bahamas (12.63) and Cindy Sember from Great Britain (12.73). World Indoor champion Cyrena Samba Mayela set a seasonal best of 12.76.

In an interview shortly after her victory in Paris, Amusan said, “Definitely, I have been well prepared for this competition because I have been training really hard. I came to execute well and to get the win and it worked.

“I am not the best starter but I tried to stay with the girls: I have the national Trials coming up next week, so I am leaving home to Nigeria. Then I have the Stockolm Diamond League and will get ready for the World Championships”

Amusan who has been outstanding in the past few days with back-to-back wins in the just concluded African Athletics Championship and Continental Gold Tour in Finland is expected back in Nigeria to compete in the 2022 All Nigeria Athletics Championships billed for this weekend in Benin, Edo State.

The championship will serve as selection trials for the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, USA and the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom
