Muhammadu Buhari has awarded himself a pass mark, saying he has served well and has not disappointed anyone, including Aisha his wife, his chief critic in the Villa who has publicly apologised to fellow citizens for his abysmal performance.

“The regime might not have been a perfect one, but I want to seize this opportunity to seek forgiveness from the Ulamas and Nigerians in general. We all need to work together to achieve a better Nigeria ….

“It is also noticeable that our Naira is being evaluated and the foreign exchange rate has affected our economy causing a lot of hardship and difficulties in terms of education, health and other day-to-day activities of our citizens,” Aisha said on 30 September 2022 during the 62nd independence anniversary festivities in Abuja.

To see it in another context, the latest report of the United Nations Children’s Fun (UNICEF) says 75 per cent of Nigerian children aged between seven and 14 years cannot read a simple sentence or solve a basic mathematics problem.

Besides, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) released a report on 18 November 2022 which says 63 per cent of Nigerians (133 million) live in multidimentional poverty, many having slipped through the poverty net in the Buhari years since 2015.

Buhari graded himself when he visited the palace of the Emir of Bauchi, Rilwanu Adamu, in continuation of All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential and gubernatorial campaign rallies.

He acknowledged the reception accorded him and the show of love by Nigerians, noting the huge crowd that welcomes him wherever he goes demonstrates genuine love and loyalty, according to Vanguard.

“I normally call on emirs and chiefs, whether on political or personal tours to states to show my gratitude.

“I like to mention that between 2003 and 2011, I visited all the local governments, and in 2019, when I was seeking my re-election for a second term, I visited all the states,” he said.

“And the people that turned out to see me were more than what anyone could buy or force and there I made a promise and pledge that I will serve Nigeria and Nigerians to the best of my ability.

“And so far, I have not disappointed anybody.”

Adamu expressed delight that political leaders in modern state system honour  traditional rulers with courtesy calls which are a practical demonstration of love and respect for traditional institutions.

He thanked Buhari for the developments his administration has brought to Bauchi, citing the Kolmani Integrated Project as a legacy for which the state and indeed the North East remain grateful.

“We cannot thank you enough and we follow the example of our Governor to express our greatest gratitude,” Adamu added, per Vanguard.

“We are also pleased that you have kept your promise of reforming the electoral processes through continuous and progressive reforms and by ensuring the independence of the electoral body, of which our son, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, is the current head.

“Your determination in this and other areas of governance has been an inspiration to all right-thinking people across the country.”.

Buhari proceeded to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium where a mammoth crowd awaited him and his entourage, and presented to the people APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu and his running mate Kashim Shettima.

Also present were Senate President Ahmad Lawan, House of Representatives Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, APC National Chairman Abdullahi Adamu, the  Governors of Kebbi, Plateau, Borno, Yobe, and Jigawa, and APC Bauchi governorship candidate Sadique Abubakar.
