Desmond Elliot, has risen in strong condemnation of the attacks on Labour Party (LP) supporters at Bode Thomas Junction (Surulere) axis of the state, describing the action as senseless.

Member representing Surulere Constituency 1 in Lagos House of Assembly, Desmond Elliot, has risen in strong condemnation of the attacks on Labour Party (LP) supporters at Bode Thomas Junction (Surulere) axis of the state, describing the action as senseless.

Many people were injured, others robbed, while property worth millions of naira were destroyed when thugs suspected to be working for the All Progressive Congress (APC) attacked supporters of the Labour Party (LP) at Surulere, Lagos, on Thursday.

The thugs, who were armed with guns, broken bottles, daggers, matchets, charms and other dangerous weapons, ambushed the LP supporters at Bode Thomas Junction.

According to an eyewitness, Titi Oworu, who incidentally is the mother of an LP House of Assembly candidate in Surulere, Olumide Oworu, LP supporters were attacked in front of the Bode Thomas Police Station where they had run to for safety.

In his reaction, Elliot described the attackers as suspected thugs and overzealous political jobbers masquerading as party supporters.

His statement titled; Re: Violent attack by hoodlums on Labour Party supporters in Surulere reads;

“The attention of the Media Office of Hon. Olushola Desmond Elliott has been drawn to the senseless attack on the supporters of the Labour Party in Surulere by suspected thugs and overzealous political jobbers masquerading as party supporters.

“Honourable Elliot has reiterated at several fora in the build up to the general election that he would never be a party to any move that seeks to undermine the peaceful coexistence that we currently enjoy in Lagos State as citizens under the able leadership of His Excellency, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

“He condemns in strong terms violence in whatever guise and as a law-abiding citizen, he has called on everyone, to allow reasons prevail and put their emotions under control in the interest of all Lagosians.

“Mr. Elliot is peaceful and law abiding and has enjoined his teeming supporters to remain law abiding as well”.

The Thursday assault was not the first time Labour Party supporters had come under attacks by suspected APC thugs in Lagos.
