Lagos State Government on Monday said it is yet to discover the cause of the collapse of a seven-storey building on Banana Island in Ikoyi.
Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.
The government’s position comes after five days of excavation at the site of the incident, which left many injured and one dead.
The Lagos commissioner said: “Excavation has reached about 90 per cent at the site of the Banana Island collapsed building.

“The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency officials are at work on the site. The rubble is being excavated and taken to another area within the compound.
“At the site are also the Lagos State Building Control Agency and the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory.
“The cause of the collapse is yet to be determined. Unfortunately, we have recorded one fatality so far. All those injured and taken to hospitals are doing well.”
In an earlier statement, the Lagos commissioner said 25 people, who were now doing fine, were rescued from the site when the Banana Island building collapsed on April 12.
“When a roll call was conducted by the site supervisors, everyone was accounted for.
“Nobody could ascertain whether the victim, whose body was found this morning, was on the site as of the time the roll call was taken,” he said.
