Davido vs Wizkid: The beef this time

The beef between Davido (David Adedeji Adeleke) and Wizkid (Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun), both of them award-winning singers, is, perhaps, as old as their foray into music.

In 2012 and last year, there were rumours that the two were at war, but at both times they came out to quash the same.

At one time, it was said that the cause of their beef was as a result of split between D’banj, and Don Jazzy.

Then the talk surfaced again, and Davido was quoted in an interview to have said that he has a lot of respect for Wizkid, and his last single is one of his favourite songs right now.

“I seriously don’t know why people always raise the issue and ask me if I’m cool with him. I thought by now they would be tired of it,” Davido was quoted to have said.

He has either lost the respect, or the people he talked about are at it again. Both Davido and Wizkid have been very active on the social media, recently firing shots at each other.

Wizkid, who, like Davido, is on tour of the United States of America, updated his Tweeter handle, @wizkidayo thus: “Thank you so much New York! Amazing show last night! Big up @wale and @akon for showing me love. Proper show! Proper venue! Boys Talk! Men work!”

Perhaps, it is the last part of the tweet, which everyone said was talking about Davido, that got Davido angry. He fired back with: “Pull half my crowd before talking sh*it!”

Although the fans of the singers have pitched their tent behind each one of them, there are those who have continued to insist that the two are not fighting. At least, not the kind that led to the death of Tupac Amaru Shakur and Christopher George Latore Wallace (Notorious B.I.G.).

It would even seem that some fans glory in the beef and go as far as comparing the stars’ girlfriends.

Unlike Wizkid, who flaunts his relationship, people seem to be in the dark about Davido’s girlfriend. But this beef has changed that. Most people now know that Davido’s girl is Nish Kards and, like Tania Omotayo (Wizkid’s), she is also a mulato.

But if anyone is in doubt, a tweet by another singer, Iyanya, is enough to clear that. The former Project Fame winner called for calm, beckoning the duo to “stop talking! Let’s release more music! Let’s entertain our fans! Stop the hate! My prayer is that we all make it!”

However, apart from Iyanya, every other person who should say something is silent, even from their individual record labels. This has led some to believe that the beef might just be a public relations (PR) gimmick for the artistes to sell their works.

Indeed, Iyanya’s is everyone’s prayer, perhaps even by those who are fuelling the beef, including Davido’s younger brother who has joined the fray. It appears that since Iyanya stepped in, Davido and Wizkid have ceased fire.

There is no doubt that the two are making waves at the moment, both locally and internationally. Like Wizkid, Davido has released several hits and done collaborations with a lot of international music acts as well as won awards locally and internationally.
