Ace Afrobeat singer and record label owner, David Adeleke popularly known as Davido has made an erroneous and weird claim.

According to him, Nigeria has only three tribes, which are Yoruba, Igbo and Benin.

The ‘Electricity’ crooner made this known recently in Lagos, while hosting popular American online streamer and YouTuber, Kai Cenat, who is in Nigeria to produce a documentary.

Speaking with the American, Davido said: “We have three tribes in Nigeria. There’s Yoruba. My father is Yoruba. And in Nigeria, wherever your father is from, that’s where you are really from. So my father is Yoruba. My wife is from Igbo. And my mother is from Benin. I’m three tribes in one.”

After the video of the meeting between the American content creator and the singer made its way to social media, it elicited divergent views, as some netizens believe Davido knew there are several tribes in Nigeria and was only fooling around.

Some of his fans who trooped to the comment section, however, argued he goofed out of excitement.

Meanwhile, a quick check on the composition of the tribes in Nigeria from the National Bureau of Statistics revealed that there are 371 tribes in Nigeria, with the majority being Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba.
