London club, Crystal Palace, earned a valuable point against one of the title favourites, Liverpool, after a resolute performance away at Anfield.

The home side dominated the game in the first half but Palace went ahead in the 32nd minute after Eberechi Eze’s superb pass found Wilfried Zaha, who finished the move to make it 0-1 to the visitors.

Liverpool’s night went from bad to worse when Uruguayan striker, Darwin Nunez who has been desperate to make an impact in front of the Kop was shown a red card by referee Paul Tierney in the 57th minute.

He was sent off after reacting to a shove from Crystal Palace defender, Joachim Andersen, with a headbutt, which saw the latter hit the floor.

The Reds then responded in defiant fashion with a brilliant equaliser from Diaz four minutes later, cutting in from the flank before flashing a right-foot finish past Vicente Guaita.

Despite going a man down, Liverpool continued to dominate proceedings as they pushed for the winning goal, with Mo Salah and substitute Fabio Carvalho just off target.

Crystal Palace, however, were defiant and even had a golden chance of their own when Zaha struck the far post when he should have scored. Anderson also missed the target from a similar position.

Liverpool remain without a win from their first two games and are 12th on the log table, they next play a desperate Manchester United, who are yet to pick up a point this season and are bottom of the league.
