Credible elections critical for people of Burundi, says UN Chief

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says that peaceful and credible elections are critical for the people of Burundi.

Ban, in his note to UN correspondents in New York on Friday, expressed the hope that all Burundians would seize the opportunity to consolidate peace and stability in their country.
The secretary-general said he was pleased that the United Nations Electoral Observation Mission in Burundi (MENUB) officially started work on Jan.1 as mandated by Security Council resolution 2137 (2014).
