The University of Ilorin has cleared its four returning foreign students of Coronavirus infection.
The clearance on Wednesday is said to have put to rest concerns about the students resuming for academic activities on the institution’s campus.
The foreign students were cleared after they had been screened by the Coronavirus Prevention Committee of the University.
Chairperson of the committee, Dr. Idayat Adurotoye, said that three of the students are from Ghana while the remaining one is from Chad.
Adurotoye said before the students were cleared they were screened on the Coronavirus disease and found not to have a symptom of the disease.
She said the university set up her committee to keep campuses of the institution safe of the spread of the disease which the World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed as pandemic.
“We have planned on how to distribute hand sanitizer and other preventive kits to our Fufu campus where remedial programmes are taking place, College of Health Sciences, Institute of Education, as well as the main campus and other areas that are necessary,” she disclosed.
Management of the University had earlier directed its returning foreign students to go for a medical test that examines them on the Coronavirus.
Director, Centre for International Education (CIE) of the institution, Prof. Felicia Olasheinde-Williams, in a letter to the students asked them to go for the medical examination at the institution’s clinic while she also warned of implications of failure to do the test
“Note that this medical test is an important requirement for maintaining your studentship with the University.
“As such, you are enjoined to adhere strictly to the directive immediately on your arrival.” she had stated.
The university has, alongside the screening of the foreign students, embarked on other measures such as sensitisation activities through various platforms, construction and equipping of wash-up areas to ensure that no member of the institution on the campuses surfers the disease.
It has reportedly setup a 24/7 emergency and outbreak management network that includes the Unilorin Healthcare Centre, the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, the Sobi Specialist Hospital and the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
