COVID-19: Obiano orders discharge of Anambra index case

Chief Willie Obiano

Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has ordered the discharge of the controversial coronavirus index case in the state.

He announced that the second test of the COVID-19 index case has returned negative.

The governor made the announcement Wednesday at Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area during his third broadcast to the state on the pandemic.

He directed the Commissioner for Health, Dr Vincent Okpala, to discharge him.

Obiano said that the remaining 36 samples had been submitted for test, promising to keep updating residents with the progress made.

He maintained that the borders with neighbouring states remain closed.

He further announced that henceforth, it was mandatory for anybody walking on the streets of Anambra State, to wear face masks.

The index case in the state had caused problems between the suspect, the hospital where he was and the state government.

While the alleged index case insisted he was not suffering any coronavirus, the state government maintained he had been isolated in one of its facilities.

However, last Saturday that the governor announced the first test had returned negative, adding that they were waiting for the second result.
