The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPs), Niger State chapter, has appealed to the state government to consider its members in the palliative programme as a result of hardship caused by the Coronavirus.
The association in a statement by the its state President, Mr. Femi Issac Alalade, suggested that the palliative could be either in cash or kind to enhance the effect of staff salaries, welfare, school operational cost.
The association commended the state government for the closure of both public and private schools in curtailing the spread of the disease.
He said that the sudden closure of schools by the state to curb the spread of the pandemic has resulted in hardship on proprietors which include payment of salaries, educational levies, taxes, among others.
“It is pertinent to note that some schools are servicing repayment of bank loans from banks and other financial institution and will face increment in interest rate.”
Alalade, however, appealed to the government to prevail on the state Internal Revenue for waivers, modalities on tax reduction and or about taxes within the period under review.
“It will be appreciated if possible, to collapse all state and local government taxes as one and for other tax collection agencies to be put on hold.” The state president of NAPPs noted the need to involve members in the restructuring of the next academic calendar and vacation date of schools.
